The cue ball's starting value in a system (salida). It is read where the cue ball's line crosses the diamond line.
Glossary
Every term used on the site is fixed across 8 languages.
The value of the point on the cushion where the cue ball is first sent (ataque).
The value of the point the cue ball reaches on the target cushion of the system (llegada).
The rubber edge of the table.
The long side of the table (8 diamonds).
The short side of the table (4 diamonds).
The point where two cushions meet.
The markers on the rail: 3 on each short cushion, 7 on each long cushion. On this site, one diamond spacing is used as the unit.
The imaginary line through the diamonds, outside the cushion nose. System values are read on this line.
The ball struck with the cue (ball 1).
The first ball the cue ball hits.
The last ball the cue ball must reach to score.
Rotation given to the ball by striking it off-center to the side. This site uses a 0–4 scale (4 = maximum).
Spin in the natural direction, which opens the ball's angle off the cushion.
Spin in the opposite direction, which closes the ball's angle off the cushion.
The ball's horizontal center line. Spin applied on the equator gives side spin only.
Striking the ball above its equator.
Striking the ball below its equator.
How much of ball 2 the cue ball covers: 1/4, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4 and so on.
The strength of the stroke. Most systems hold at a specific speed.
A shot in which the cue ball is sent to a cushion before it hits any ball.
A shot in which the cue ball takes ball 2 thin and passes to the cushion next to it.
A shot in which the cue ball goes from a long cushion to a short cushion and comes back along the same long cushion with reverse rotation.
The ball hitting two opposite cushions in succession.
An unintended second collision between the balls; it ruins the position.
The cue ball following through behind ball 2 after a full hit.
A closed-angle three-cushion position around the short cushion and the corner (cabaña).
A round-the-table three-cushion shot in which the cue ball travels around the table off the cushions.
The misalignment between the cue ball and ball 2; it is measured in the Bola-Efecto systems.
The numbered path the cue ball follows in Bola-Efecto rodadas (calle).
In the Tüzül method, a fixed value each player measures for their own stroke and table.
The position of the cue ball at the moment it contacts ball 2.
The system line drawn from the start point to the aim point; the cue ball must lie on this line.
The basic test position used to calibrate a system's spin and speed.
A value added to or subtracted from the result of the base formula, depending on the position.
The order in which the cue ball contacts the cushions (L = long, S = short).
Playing with the player's non-dominant hand (or from a reversed stance).
A section of a cushion that has its own correction value in the system.
