Layout 1, red first: the balls get squeezedThe cue ball is in the lower left area, the yellow to its right, the red in the upper area. Hit the left half of the red with a 3/4 ball fraction, half a tip of right (reverse) spin and hard; the cue ball comes back to the yellow via the top short cushion, the left long cushion and the bottom short cushion. The full hit sends the red on a long journey: it comes down via the top short cushion and the right long cushion and stops next to the yellow and the cue ball. All three balls are squeezed into the lower right area; on the next shot there is neither a corner target nor a safe angle.
Choosing the solution for position · Drill cards
Layout 1, yellow first: thin hit, cornerSame layout. Hit the left half of the nearby yellow very thin (1/8), with no side spin and soft speed; the cue ball goes up to the red via the right long cushion, the left long cushion and the right long cushion. The yellow only slides to the bottom right corner. The cue ball stops next to the red. Result: the cue ball near one ball, the other ball in the corner. This is the position solution for this layout.
Layout 2, red first: ball 2 in the middle of the short cushionThe cue ball is in the middle, the red lower right, the yellow to the left. Hit the left half of the red with a 1/2 ball fraction and three tips of left (reverse) spin; the cue ball reaches the yellow via the right long cushion, the bottom short cushion and the left long cushion. The red stays in the lower middle of the table; the cue ball and the yellow are also close to the middle. No ball is in a corner, and there is no big target left for the next shot.
Layout 2, yellow first: the balls separateSame layout. Hit the left half of the yellow with a 1/2 ball fraction, half a tip of left (running) spin and medium speed; the cue ball comes to the red via the left long cushion, the bottom short cushion and the right long cushion and stops next to it. The yellow touches the left long cushion and goes to the upper right area of the table, near the long cushion. Result: the cue ball near the red, the yellow far away and near the cushion. With a similar difficulty in both solutions, this one leaves position.
