Start 6, Arrival 2, D1 = D2 = 2 → Aim = 6 + (2 − 6) × 2 ÷ 4 = 4. The aim is exactly midway between the two positions.

The cue ball goes first to a cushion and then to ball 2. You aim at the mirror image of the target beyond the cushion; this way the angle at which the ball comes into the cushion and the angle at which it leaves it are equal. The same aim point can also be found by calculation: the distance between the two balls along the cushion is divided in the ratio of their distances from the cushion.

When? When ball 2 is to be made with a one-cushion bricole: when ball 2 is close to the cushion or blocked, or when there is a danger of a kiss on a direct shot. The cue ball and the target are in front of the same cushion.

Calculate
Aim = Start + (Arrival − Start) × D1 ÷ (D1 + D2)
Start: position of the cue ball along the cushion
D1: distance of the cue ball from the mirror line
Arrival: position of the ghost ball along the cushion
D2: distance of the ghost ball from the mirror line
Slow, rolling ball (shallow angle)
Aim4
  1. Basis: the interval is divided in the ratio D1 : D24
  2. Aim4

Watch outSide spin changes the rebound angle noticeably; the system is for shots without spin.

Watch outThe mirror rule only tells you how to reach ball 2. For the cushions after ball 2 and for ball 3, the ball fraction and the spin must be chosen separately.
