Ball 2 at the middle diamond of the right long cushion → 8. Ball 2 frozen to the cushion → short cushion 0. Balls level → offset 0. Arrival on the left long cushion between 8 and 4 → 6. Total 8 + 6 = 14 → ball fraction 6 + spin 8.

The Bola-Efecto systems are based on a relatively recent method that has little to do with the traditional systems. They are very reliable on every kind of table (even pool tables), and easy to learn because there is little data to memorize. The most important thing, common to every case and the one thing you must memorize, is the spin and ball-fraction table; each family also has a simple diamond numbering. The short cabaña is the first family: it can make up roughly 20–25% of the positions in a game of three-cushion.

When? When ball 2 is near the right long cushion and, after hitting ball 2, the cue ball follows the path right long cushion → bottom short cushion → left long cushion and reaches ball 3 (short cabaña).

Calculate
Total = Ball 2 (long cushion) + Ball 2 (short cushion) + Offset + Arrival (+1 for a firm stroke); Total = Ball fraction + Spin
Ball 2 position (right long cushion)
Ball 2 position (bottom short cushion correction)
Offset (shift)
Arrival (left long cushion)
4–5 cushions / firm stroke
Total (ball fraction + spin)14
  1. Total (ball 2 + short cushion + offset + arrival)14
  2. Total (ball fraction + spin)14
✓ Example: 8 + 6 = 14 → 6 ball + 8 spin

Watch outSplits that take more ball, such as 6+6, can send ball 2 toward the carom area and increase the risk of a kiss.

Editor's noteEditor's note: The coordinates of the spin points on the ball face are approximate. In the angle table, α is the angle of the cue ball and β the angle of ball 2 relative to the cue line; in every row α + β = 90.
